Richard Pearce
Richard is the Electrical Skills Leader for Arup UKIMEA. He has 24 years’ experience in the built environment across the Commercial, Education, Science, and Industrial sectors. He has witnessed the transition from conventional silo-based systems to today’s fully integrated smart building which can provide the best user experience and the valuable insights required to reduce energy consumption. Richard is currently delivering the smart building solution for Arup’s new Birmingham Office which opens later this year, and therefore has the practical advantage of being both consultant and client is this rapidly evolving market.
Paul Dart
Paul is a senior cyber security consultant with 14 years’ experience within the built environment, transport industry and wider infrastructure domain. His work has spanned from very technical assurance testing (penetration testing/ethical hacking) to briefing boards on high level cyber risk. He has applied his expertise to sports stadia, telecommunications systems, railway control centres, as well as in the automotive and industrial control domains. He’s previously worked for a global engineering firm and a cyber security consultancy and now combines these by considering risk, security, and resilience for a variety of clients. He has been invited present at industry events and promotes a pragmatic and holistic approach to security for clients on all parts of their security journey . He is a chartered engineer with the IET.
Rita Lavasa
Rita is a Senior Digital Consultant working in Arup’s Smart Buildings team and is passionate about emerging technologies and data-driven decision making.She started her career at a software company (OSIsoft) where she gained experience in implementing real-time data management infrastructure in complex system architectures, and worked with clients from various industrial sectors.Since joining Arup, she has been involved in the multi-disciplinary design of commercial, science, mission critical and healthcare projects. Aside from her day to day work in the Smart Buildings team, she is actively involved in company-wide digital transformation initiatives, as well as the managing the Arup partnership with the Open Data Institute, where she is planning and overseeing partnership deliverables and identifies strategic priorities.
Karen Warner
Karen is an Associate Director and UKIMEA Smart Buildings Business Lead in Arup.She has 30 years of experience in the built environment with a background in building control systems design and building performance evaluation, working in a variety of project sectors including data centres, commercial buildings, rail, bridges and on and off-shore energy structures.She specialises in smart building (IoT) interoperability which is in high demand by high profile and forward-looking clients. Her focus is on unlocking the power of data to help owners and occupiers enhance user experience and optimise their buildings’ performance, by providing secure and scalable solutions while avoiding vendor lock-in. She is a Chartered Engineer with CIBSE.

Our IT, AV and Workplace Technology delivery team bring IT, AV and smart workplace subject matter expertise, insight and experience of successful delivery for construction projects. Our intention is always to consider a holistic approach to IT and AV, including workplace technology. We don't believe technology should be designed in an island. We will consider the IT infrastructure implications across the whole building as well as cross-system automation, interface unification and the integrations that power the building experience.

Digital Consultant. Rebecca works with organisations to develop intuitive, innovative and seamless digital experiences that bring a building to life. She considers the user first and foremost in design and is passionate about connecting the physical building experience with the online. Rebecca is skilled at understanding complex stakeholder requirements and distilling these into clear briefs and designs. She has over 20 years’ experience working with organisations to develop and implement digital services and strategy.
Her work with organisations most often starts with exploring the art of the possible, – understanding vision and objectives, user needs and expectations and presenting / translating options. Her approach focuses on designing a connected building experience for users, that will run efficiently, both operationally and environmentally.
